-Deputy Finley is in touch with Stanley Savage (retired APD) to see about enforcing parking restrictions in Summerhill during the Braves games
-Brian Hawkins is going to try to get in touch with Deputy Finley and Stanley Savage
-Suggestions: Parking Decals or hanging tags for Summerhill residents
-Today: 4/5/10-First Braves home game
-cars parked everywhere from in front of people’s homes to vacant lots to front yards
-Police were not responsive to parking complaints—they had more important incidents to handle
-it took over an hour for Police to respond
b. Earth Day April 24 Electronics & Tire Round‐up (5 minutes)
-ONS will be getting a team together to get abandoned tires out of our neighborhood
-Josh Murtha and Paul Salo have volunteered to use their trucks to load the tires to the recycling site
-ONS is planning to have a picnic in Phoenix Park III after the recycling drive for the neighbors of Summerhill
-We are hoping to get more people involved in ONS and allow residents to get to know their neighbors
c. NPU‐V Employment Survey (5 minutes)
-Juawana Porter came to ONS to conduct a labor force survey as part of her Graduate School Project

-we need to get more people to join the webpage to support the cause
-Judge informed the council working on Code Compliance for the city about the loop holes that he saw in the law
-Carla Smith has been receiving a lot of phone calls from residents and nonresidents about the Blight
-We need to continue to e-mail Carla Smith and other Council member in the At Large posts about this problem

1. HGTV CURB APPEAL
-Kara and Godfrey Gaisie’s house has been chosen
-located at Richmond and Martin St
-HGTV will start next week, but will not air until next season
III. Community Project/In‐Process Updates (46 minutes or less)
a. Zone 3 Police Update (10 minutes or less)
-burglaries are on the rise
-hot items: flat screens, GPS, Laptops
-City Curfew for children 15 & younger
-week days- 11PM
-weekends- 12PM
-APD is trying to enforce truancy (kids skipping school)
-time frame 9AM-2PM
-parents are getting warnings on the 1st time and tickets after that
-Freaknick- April 16th-18th
-Claire Farley (community prosecutor)
-court watch training will be April 24th
-Jonathan Redding (The Standard Shooting) will come up in May for a hearing again.

-Josh Murtha and Wendy Bataglia are trying to raise fund for the Summerhill children to go to the summer and after school program
-they met with Nan Orick about raising funds
-Josh is trying to get in contact with the Boys & Girls Club for the cost per child
-we are estimating $150-$175/child for both summer and after school program for a year based on last year’s cost
-The Summer Camp deadline is quickly approaching
d. National Night Out 2010 Campaign (5 minutes)
- Josh and Wendy are attending the National Night Out meeting
-will provide ONS with more information and items needed as soon as possible
e. SMP Fund Update (5 minutes)
-in the past 10 years SNDC, SUMAC and the Peoplestown group has received about $1 million/yr
-the records are inadequate at best to show what these funds were used for
-Brian Hawkins gave a brief summary about the SMP fund for those new attendees that did not know the history of the SMP fund
f. Southeast Atlanta Mayoral Forum Update (1 minute)
-Ross has worked hard with other neighborhoods to have the mayoral candidates come and do a forum for this past election
-positive feelings about the answers to the questions that affect our neighborhood. The candidates seemed honest and sincere
-this same group will be organizing a regular neighborhood meeting since most of our neighborhoods are having the same problems (vacant homes, code compliance, burglaries, etc)
-We need people to get involved with this group so that Summerhill will have a voice with politicians

- think about fund raising activity
-start collecting dues
b. SMP Community Fund Meeting March 2nd at 12 p.m. Turner Field (1 minute)
-Brian will be there to bring us ONS’s 5013C status and ask how ONS can get some funds for community projects.
-Mechanicsville Board will be at this meeting to discuss SUMAC cutting the funds that were provided to the Mechanicsville board since there is a new Mechanicsville Board.
c. March NPU‐V meeting, Monday March 8, 7 p.m., location to be announced
-We need to show an ONS presence at the NPU-V meetings
-Don’t forget that you must be at two meetings per year to be able to vote on NPU-V agenda items.

e. “HGTV Curb Appeal” Show coming to Summerhill! (5 minutes)
- John Benthal nominated a house for HGTV’s Block Curb Appeal and HGTV has selected the house (address not to be disclosed until after the filming).
-The show will be filmed in late April or May 2010.
-This will be great positive publicity for Summerhill.
f. Neighbor Announcements/Q&A (5 minutes)
-Positive- There has been a lot of clean-up around South Ave. Partially due to the renovations that Philippe Pellerin and his company have been doing in the neighborhood.
-Positive- 2 one-story houses on the north side of Georgia Ave have been upgraded to two-story homes. They look 100% better and fit into the neighbor better.
-Positive- Police response to home alarms has been shortened dramatically. (Ryan Wolfe)

- February has been a relatively quiet month as for as crime in Summerhill.
- ONS Public Safety Update (5 minutes) (Ryan Wolfe)
-We need to continue to watch abandon houses in our neighborhood to help cut down on crime.
-If you see abandon houses that appear to have activity going on in them, please contact Brian Hawkins, John Fox or Ryan Wolfe so that we can get these homes boarded up immediately.
-Call the police if you see suspicious activities going on in the abandoned houses.

-Community Life Concepts (CLC)
-CLC is organizing programs for Senior Citizens, After School Programs for Children and the M-Team for Teenagers at Martin Street Plaza.
-ON 2/25/10, the M-Team interviewed Senior Citizen in the Martin Street Plaza Community for Black History Month. They interview and recorded the interviews themselves.
-This was a great experience for the Senior Citizens and for the M-Team Teenagers would were able to learn some of their own history from people that lived through it.
-Wendy met with AHA, CLC and Nan Oriek to raise money for the Boys & Girls Club and After School Programs.
-Goal: To get every child in Summerhill enrolled in an afterschool program and summer program.

d. National Night Out 2010 Campaign (5 minutes)
- A night of activities for kids to educate them on different things like safety. There will be game and other activities. Every child will receive a book bag filled with needed school supplies.
- We hope to send 50 children from Summerhill to National Night Out.
-The Summerhill children were the best behaved and well-mannered last year. (Wendy Bataglia)
- 1st meeting for National Night out will be next month.
- Wendy will be heading up the fundraising
- We need to see if we (members of ONS) can get people and business for the community to donate and/or get their companies to donate.
e. Center for Working Families Update (5 minutes)
-Did you know that the Center for Working Families is not just for Low Income Families?
-That’s right; the Center is for anyone living in the surrounding NPUs
-They offer many different programs and classes like:
-Financial Coaching to assist with dept management
-Assistance with filing your Taxes
-Foreclosure Prevention
-Micro Business Development
-There classes and programs are taught by business professionals that are donating their time and expertise to help those would need it.
-If you have an expertise that could be helpful to others in the community, please contact the Center for Working Families to see what you can do to help.

a. Congratulations to Ross Reynolds and his wife on their new addition.
-Myles was born 5 weeks early at 4 lbs and 3 oz.
-Myles and Mom both made it through the difficult time and are both doing great.
b. Claire Farley- Community Prosecutor
-Please point out the houses that have code violations and drug trafficking.
-We need addresses for these properties or at least crossroads so that we can locate the properties and send Police.
c. If you have a problem with a house in your area that you think might be Section 8 Housing, please call 1-888-242-4968.
-if you are not sure if it is a Section 8 House (because that is usually hard to find out), go ahead and call. If it is Section 8 Housing, then Section 8 should send someone out quickly to review the property and activities taking place at that house.
-Section 8 Housing has very strict rules, but they don’t know that the rules are being broken unless we report it.

B. February NPU-V meeting, Monday 2/8/10, 7 p.m. Peoplestown, Rick McDevitt Rec Center (1 minute)
-we must keep up attendance to be able to vote (at least 2 meetings per year to vote)
-a builder has requested a variance from NPU-V
-NPU-V voted that it would be postponed until the builder came to an ONS meeting
-So far the builder has not come to ONS for approval
C. Neighborhood Stabilization Program-Vendor, Philippe Pellerin, Pellerin & Salomon Real Estate Services, LLC (15 minutes)
-this program is to stabilize the values of homes in the neighborhood
-Atlanta received $14 million for the NSP
-Real Estate Alliance Partners received $2 million to renovate 15 foreclosed houses.
-They just bought 7 homes in the Summerhill neighborhood.
-working with SUMAC
-they identify areas that need the most work, make a plan and then go to the city for approval (approx 2 month process)
-Next step, renovate the houses and put them up for sale.
-primarily looking for houses that are newer (since Olympics)
and have no structural damage
- Focused on the corner of South Ave and Connally for
- Properties are primarily for home owners.
- Home buyers must live in residence
- Home buyers are required to attend home buyer counseling
- Plan is that home owners will stay in property for at least 5 years
- Most houses are prices around $160,000 (not really low income or at least not according to HUD standards)
- Real Estate Alliance Partners does realize that many of the homes were mortgage fraud properties and is working on getting the taxes redone to reflect actually home values.
- There is a duplex and a 4 plex that will be owned and ran by Real Estate Alliance Partners as rental properties
- Real Estate Alliance Partners are also trying to hire people within the community to work on these projects

-What questions do you want to ask the mayor?
1. What are you going to do about the sewer system problems in Atlanta and the increasing sewer cost to residents? Are you going to try to get Federal Assistance to help with the cost?
2. What are you doing to increase the number of Atlanta Police Officers?
3. What are you going to do to clean up the building and code compliance problems in Atlanta?
4. Have all the youth center is Atlanta been reopened as you promised in your Mayoral Campaign? If not, what are you doing to fulfill this promise?
D. ACORA Grant Request/Funding Update (1 minutes)
- ONS is not pursuing ACORA Funds
- As a Board, we feel that the process is too complicated to pursue
-Other major issue: Funding must be provided up front and then if approvved by ACORA, funds will be reimbursed.
E. Georgia Avenue “Fight the Blight” Update (4 minutes)
-Judge Gary Jackson
-dismissed everything because no one from the community showed up at the last hearing.
-We need a better understanding of why the judge and city are not enforcing the
rules and code compliance.
-It seems as though the judge has a personal relationship with the defendant and is
granting personal favors instead of upholding the law.
-We will file another complaint with the city regarding the lack of code compliance on the
properties owned by John Elder.
-We also need to write Major Kasim Reed about the judicial system and how the case was handled and the possible corruption in our judicial system.

- Update on Fulton County’s Budget Cut

-Even though we sent numerous e-mail showing our disapproval of Fulton County cutting the DA’s office’s budget especially the community prosecutor’s budget, the cuts are still going to be made.

E. Georgia Avenue “Fight the Blight” Update (4 minutes)
-Judge Gary Jackson dismissed everything because no one fro the community showed up at the last hearing.
-We need a better understanding of why the judge and city are not enforcing the rules and code compliance.
-It seems as though the judge has a personal relationship with the defendant and is grating personal favors instead of upholding the law.
-We will file another complaint with the city regarding the lack of code compliance on the properties owned by John Elder.
-We also need to write Major Kasim Reed about the judicial system and how the case was handled and the possible corruption in our judicial system.

A. Update on Fulton County’s Budget Cuts

-Even though we sent numerous e-mail showing our disapproval of Fulton County cutting the DA’s office’s budget especially the community prosecutor’s budget, the cuts are still going to be made.
