ONS Meetings
Schedule
Summerhill meetings are held at 7:00 on the first Monday of the month at the Georgia Hill Center at 250 Georgia Ave (Note that we changed days in 2009!). The Georgia Hill center is the large public library at the corner of Georgia Ave. and Grant Terrace. You can't miss it. We try to keep the meeting time down to 60-90 minutes. Though plenty an "after meeting" ends up at one of our local eateries.
Sign up for the Summerhill email list to get announcements with the agenda and changes in schedule or location.
What happens in meetings?
As a neighborhood association, the Organized Neighbors of Summerhill vote on the following issues and initiatives:
-
Public development initiatives impacting the neighborhood of Summerhill
-
Re-zoning that impacts Summerhill
-
Variances from the current zoning requirements, when requested by private developers
-
Letters of support for public/private grants for projects impacting Summerhill
In addition, the ONS seeks to improve the neighborhood through work in the following areas:
-
Advocating economic development with our local government
-
Addressing public safety concerns
-
Outdoor improvements to our local parks
-
Work on Traffic and transportation issues
In addition, expect to hear updates from the Summerhill board, our local police precinct, and our local political representation from the city or state legislature.
Who should go?
We should all go when we can. However, not everyone has time to go to all the meetings. Many of us are busy professionals who travel for work. That is why we have email and this web site!
The Summerhill board will reach out to keep you informed of the agenda and open up major announcements and votes here for comment. However, community is what keeps us strong, and our active participation helps make Summerhill a great place to live. (Plus, it's fun to see everyone once a month.)
